Pon a prueba tu inglés: Do or make?

Siempre le digo a mis estudiantes que tienen mucha suerte porque en inglés los sustantivos no tienen género, por tanto, no tienes que preocuparte de si es ‘la moto’ o ‘el moto’, ‘la sofá’ o ‘el sofá’, ‘el puente’ o ‘la puente’… Oh I hate this one! Simplemente decimos ‘the motorbike’, ‘the sofa’, ‘the bridge’. También, por mucho que se quejen sobre los verbos irregulares, las conjugaciones verbales son mucho más complicadas en español. No puedo decir ‘que sabes que…’, sino ‘que sepas que …’, ni ‘yo andé a …’, sino ‘yo anduve a …’; ni ‘no cabo’, sino ‘no quepo’. Bloody hell!

Sin embargo, es verdad que hay  algunos temas (¿o algunas temas?) que son más confusos en inglés. Como por ejemplo, el hecho de tener dos verbos que significan ‘hacer’. Así que de vez en cuando me gusta vengarme y poner a mis estudiantes a prueba. Vamos a ver qué tal se te da este test.  Let’s begin!

En general, usamos ‘do’ para hablar de acciones, tareas … that’s the reason why we do exercise! Usamos ‘make’ cuando hablamos de crear o fabricar algo. That’s why we make cups of tea and cakes! Sin embargo, esta regla no siempre se aplica, ya que existen ciertas ‘collocations’ en inglés que siempre requieren uno u otro y no nos queda más remedio que aprenderlas. Por ejemplo: we make appointments, sometimes we do favours, we make efforts, we do our best and sometimes, we make exceptions!
