Estas son las 5 expresiones que hemos visto del vídeo:
To put all your eggs in one basket
👉 Literalmente: poner todos tus huevos en una cesta.
👉 Significa: jugarse todo a una carta, arriesgar todo a una sola cosa.
«His family used to be very weatlhy, but they lost everything on the stock market. That’s what happens when you put all your eggs in one basket.»
To put it in a nutshell
👉 Literalmente: ponerlo en una cáscara de nuez.
👉 Significa: en pocas palabras, en resumidas cuentas.
«How was your business trip? To put it in a nutshell, it was a complete success!»
To sell like hotcakes
👉 Literalmente: vender como tortitas.
👉 Significa: vender muy rápido, casi sin esfuerzo.
“We need to order another batch of retro sunglasses, the first batch sold like hotcakes!»
To go through the roof
👉 Literalmente: atravesar el tejado.
👉 Significa: dispararse, aumentar muy rápido.
“Since we placed that advert on the cover of Vogue magazine, our jewellery sales have gone through the roof.”
También significa enfadarse, por ejemplo: «Your mum is going to go through the roof when she finds out you’ve crashed her car.»
To pull a few strings
👉 Literalmente: tirar de algunas cuerdas.
👉 Significa: mover los hilos. Manipular, usar tus contactos o influencias para conseguir el resultado que deseas.
-«How could he get the job? I’m much more experienced than him!
-«I’ve heard his brother used to do business with the manager, so he must have pulled a few strings for him»
