Hello folks!
Hoy te traemos diez frases muy comunes en inglés americano, con las que no tardarás en cruzarte si sueles ver series o películas americanas en versión original. Vamos a aprender su significado, como nos gusta en Amigos Ingleses, dentro de un contexto. Para ello hemos seleccionado fragmentos de vídeos en los que se mencionan estas frases.
Para ir metiéndonos un poco en el papel de ‘yankee’, nos encantaría que intentes leer este texto con tu mejor versión del acento americano:
«Right, I’m gonna tell you something, you’d better read this list and start using these expressions when you see an American dude, cause you’re gonna kick some ass! Oh so, you’re more into British English, are you? What the heck are you telling me man? I mean, that’s like totally cool, but you still wanna go to the movies, don’t you? «
1. What’s up!
👉 Significa: qué pasa, qué tal.
«So what’s up, there’s something kinda funky going on here.»
2. Like
👉 Significa: como.
«I’m like… «what?»
3. Totally
👉 Significa: totalmente, completamente.
«So nobody really thought that this was a model that was something that would really work. But we definitely knew that it would work. We did, no seriously, we totally did know that it would work.»
4. Awesome!
👉 Significa: genial, fantástico, estupendo. That’s like totally awesome, right?
«We’re essentially trying to build a more awesome government, for the people, by the people, today.»
5. For real
👉 Significa: de verdad, en serio, de veras. Una frase que se escucha mucho es: ‘Are you for real?’, es algo así como: ¿lo dices en serio?, ¿estás de coña?
«For real, I love ‘Silicon Valley’, it really makes me laugh, it’s so funny.»
6. I don’t buy it
👉 Significa: no me lo creo. «You got that car for 200 bucks? I don’t buy it!»
«What if impossible isn’t fact, what if it’s opinion and what if I don’t buy it.»
7. You got it
👉 Significa: tiene varios significados
- Estoy de acuerdo: «I think we should stop and have a coffee.» «You got it!»
- Te daré lo que has pedido: «We’ll have the soup and the fish please.» «You got it!»
- De nada: «Thanks for the peanut butter sandwich.» «You go it!»
- ¡Eso es!: «So you’ll text me tomorrow to let me know the time?» «You go it!»
«Inhale, step or hop it back to plank, you got it! Exhale, slowly lower down to cobra or upward-facing dog.»
8. God damn it!
👉 Significa: mierda, joder, carajo. Oppss, excuse my French!

9. Dude
👉 Significa: tipo, tío.
What’s up dude? ¡Qué pasa tío!
I said, «Ok, dude. I’m gonna give you a writing assignment. I need you to write a little side bar.»
10. Are you telling me?
👉 Significa: me estás diciendo …
«It’s a 65 percent Sunni-majority country. Are you telling me that even if the United States wanted to keep him and sat there, you couldn’t do it, because those folks won’t stop fighting because of what he has done.»
