Hello there!
No worries!
To get the sack
Literalmente: recibir el saco.
Otra forma de decirlo: to be fired, to be made redundant.
👉 «If you continue arriving 30 minutes late every day you’re going to get the sack«.
To hand in one’s notice
Literalmente: entregar tu aviso.
Significado: dimitir.
Otra forma de decirlo: to resigne, give notice, stand down, step down.
👉 «I can stand this job anymore. It’s time to hand in my notice and look for something better.»
👉 «She has stepped down from her job as a publicist in order to start her own agency».
To work your fingers to the bone
Otra forma de decirlo: to burn the midnight oil, to work around the clock.
👉 «You should be a bit nicer to your mother, she’s been working her fingers to the bone for you to be able to study that degree».
👉 «The whole team has been working around the clock in order to meet the deadline.»
To throw in the towel
Otra forma de decirlo: to give up, to quit, to abandon.
👉 «If you’re going to throw in the towel, please make sure it’s on the beach. All right?»
👉 «Sorry, but this is too much. An inflexible timetable, no free coffee, no table tennis, I quit!»
Have a lovely weekend!
To work one’s socks off: Trabajar duro.
