A estas alturas, pocos dudan de que buena parte del futuro de la industria de la música pasa indefectiblemente por las plataformas de streaming como Spotify o el recién estrenado Google Music, cuya versión beta acaba de ver la luz en Estados Unidos. Y sin embargo, también son pocos los que hablan de las leoninas condiciones que estas ofrecen al artista en materia de royalties.
Un dato que habla por sí solo: durante el pasado 2010, Copenhage de Vetusta Morla consiguió el récord de ganancias en un mes, según publicó recientemente la revista Rolling Stone. El grupo madrileño se embolsó por ello 100 irrisorios euros. ¿Cuál es la alternativa? No existe. Estar en Spotify y similares es como las lentejas. O las tomas, o las dejas. Bajo una gran idea revestida de modernidad se esconde un arma de doble filo con un potencial arrollador. Como todo el mundo sabe, un gran poder conlleva -además de una gran responsabilidad- elevadas dosis de ética. Y esta raramente es compatible con los intereses del mundo en el que nos ha tocado vivir.
A día de hoy, cuando la posibilidad de prescindir de intermediarios para llegar hasta el oyente es ya una realidad, exigir a estas compañías un reparto justo del pastel y una transparencia absoluta respecto a su modelo de negocio debería ser una prioridad para músicos y sellos de toda condición, especialmente para los más pequeños. No vaya a ser que en breve, y con las multinacionales al borde del abismo, tengamos un nuevo oligopolio a manos de los mismos perros con distinto collar.
Es que sólo sabes escribir mierdad? Joder tronco a ver si te enteras que esto es el FU-TU-RO.

Por desgracia spotify paga a la discográfica por las reproducciones del tema y esta es la que paga luego una parte al grupo/artista.

Tengo dos discos y el primero lo metí en Spotify para probar… valoro más el segundo y no me apetecía poner éste último en estas plataformas sin haberlo probado antes. Decisión: no meto el segundo disco ni de coña. Spotify no es el futuro… lo fue hace no mucho tiempo, ahora es el presente. Y como presente es la caña para el que escucha música y una basura para el que la quiere hacer. Sencillamente NO es viable para los artistas. Son empresas totalmente opacas y sus beneficios son irrisorios -cuando no insultantes-. Si Vetusta consigue esos ingresos… ¿qué conseguirá alguien independiente, fura del sistema? respuesta: NADA. Y por tanto, el futuro NO será eso… desde luego ahora YA es el presente, pero basta que los que produzcamos algo optemos por otras vías para que sencillamente nos busquemos las castañas por nuestra cuenta. Como ya hacemos.
estas empresas funcionan porque ganan dinero -mucho- y no repercute en los artistas. desde el principio, muchos quisimos estar ahí y probamos… creímos en ello… en el momento en que dejamos de creer, lo dejamos de usar y aquí paz y después gloria. Spotify no formaba parte de la industria -era el futuro- ha pasado a ser una parte más del nuevo formato de industria -repito: ya presente- y su funcionamiento para los músicos es abiertamente nefasto. Quien mete ahí el material es sencillamente para poder ESTAR, sin más (el caso de Vetusta, repito, es muy esclarecedor).
En cuanto al palurdo del inicio, creo que os habéis confundido… ha insultado y no ha argumentado… por tanto, no ha llamado ‘palurdo’ al autor, sino más bien me parece que era la firma de su comentario. Al menos eso me ha parecido a mi.

¿Que quereis que os diga? Yo seguiré comprando discos físicos mientras estos existan. Me encanta pasar media tarde en una tienda de discos, buscando, ojeando, hablando y, finalmente, comprando, llegando a casa y disfrutar del ritual de ponerlo y escucharlo mientras ojeo la portada y demás tonterias… Y que conste que uso Spotify y Grooveshark; pero como forma de descubrir nueva música, o como forma rápida de oír un disco que tengo enterrado en el montón, y me da pereza buscar en ese momento, pero he vivido muchos años sin ellos, y podría volver a hacerlo.Tengo por amigo en Facebook al lider y principal compositor de una banda considerada como una de las mejores del rock progresivo europeo, relativamente conocida y vendedora, y hace un par de meses, posteó que había recibido un cheque por valor de unos céntimos de euro (no es coña) por las veces que la gente había escuchado sus álbumes (nueve, incluyendo directos, desde 1997) en Spotify. La cosa es que el chaval decía que seguía ganando más dinero vendiendo discos de toda la vida (que no serán muchos) que con esta plataforma. Supongo que Spotify y similares saldrán a cuenta a músicos ya ultra famosos, cuyas canciones la chavalada oye por internet ahorrandose la compra del disco o single (si es que se siguen fabricando singles)… canciones de las que no se acuerdan pasados tres meses si me apuras. Yo, por mi parte, sigo recordando con cariño el primer disco que compré con once años… y que sigo conservando en mi colección.

Vetusta Morla se ha llevado 100 pavos por promocionar su música en Spotify, una plataforma a través de la cual puedes escuchar el disco pero no poseerlo físicamente. Y aquí la pregunta es: ¿qué caché se llevan a día de hoy por bolo?
