Pues yo creo que sí, no a todo el mundo, obviamente, pero todavía existe un gran número de cinéfilos que sigue con devoción este festival en particular por la historia que tiene detrás. Es cierto que quizá ya no tenga la importancia que tenía hace años. Ahora lo que ha triunfado en Sundance o Montreal, sorprendido en Berlín o incluso escandalizado en Sitges tiene tanto o más repercusión que lo que ganó en Cannes. Y si no, decidme cuántos de vosotros recordáis las últimas Palmas de Oro. ¿Cuántos las habéis visto? ¿Se acuerda alguien de quiénes ganaron los premios interpretativos o de dirección?
Haciéndome estas preguntas parece que yo misma restara importancia al festival; pero no es cierto. Más allá de los nombres, los títulos y los premios (más o menos justos, siempre discutidos, a veces hasta el escándalo), seguir lo que pasa en Cannes supone ponerse al día de las tendencias más exquisitas del mercado. Es la exhibición de las delicatessen, que, como los buenos foie, no son para todos los paladares, y quizá ni siquiera sean lo mejor (la calidad es tan difícil de medir…); pero definitivamente sí es lo más selecto del mercado cinematográfico.
Esta edición el jurado está presidido por Robert De Niro y en la sección oficial se podrán ver los últimos trabajos de Nanni Moretti, Pedro Almodóvar, Jean-Pierre y Luc Dardenne, Aki Kaurismäki, Lars Von Trier, Terrence Malick y Paolo Sorrentino, entre otros. ¿No es eso acaso lo más de lo más?
