Menudo final de año llevamos, enciendo el ordenador para escribir un post y me entero que ha muerto Blake Edwards, el padre fílmico de la Pantera Rosa, y el marido de la infravalorada Julie Andrews. Aunque para todos Edwards era uno de los referentes de la comedia americana de los cincuenta y sesenta, a mí personalmente cuando más me ha gustado ha sido cuando ha dirigido dramas, como la emocionante y dura ‘Días de vino y rosas’ (una de las mejores películas que he visto sobre el alcoholismo, con un Jack Lemmon y una Lee Remick simplemente espectaculares) o con la elegante ‘Desayuno con diamantes’; un filme que no gustó al autor de la novela en la que se basaba, Truman Capote, porque dulcificaba el personaje de Holly Golinghtly y, según él, en cierta manera lo traicionaba. A pesar de los peros que pudieran ponerle los que hayan leído el libro, Audrey Hepburn estaba espléndida y bellísima y la película logró elevar a la categoría de icono a la protagonista, a su sofisticado vestuario de De Givenchy, y de paso a la joyería Tiffany´s de Nueva York, que desde entonces se convirtió en lugar de peregrinación de cinéfilos de todo el mundo (yo incluida, para sonrojo de mis amigos).
Con un fragmento de esta película os dejo, aunque quizá escuchar ahora la conmomedora música de Mancini intensifique la tristeza por la muerte de Edwards.

No hay mal que dure cien años , dice el famoso refrán pero tambien es cierto que ni lo bueno escapa a esa máxima, y este hombre que tantos buenos ratos nos hizo vivir con sus sorprendentes peliculas tambien ha caido y solo se me ocurre desearle que viva feliz en la otra vida al lado de los mejores.
