Anoche, mientras preparaba el post sobre Nielsen, leí que Mario Monicelli se había suicidado, saltando desde el quinto piso del hospital donde estaba ingresado. Estaba muy enfermo. Tenía 95 años y un cáncer de próstata que había entrado en su fase terminal. Inmediatamente me puse a pensar en las películas que había visto de él y que me habían gustado; pero después me han venido a la cabeza sus declaraciones, su activismo político, su lucidez… y con eso me gustaría quedarme hoy. Por eso os dejo dos vídeos que he encontrado. Uno es una entrevista en español, realizada hace dos años, en la que anunciaba que ya no haría más cine, que llevaba 65 películas y que eso era más que suficiente. Oyéndolo hablar, tan elocuente, cualquiera diría que se trataba de un nonagenario.
El segundo es un fragmento de ‘La gran guerra‘. Está en italiano, siento no haberlo podido encontrar en español, pero os lo dejo igualmente porque esa película merece ser conocida. Ojalá alguien tenga el buen gusto de poner en la tele alguna de sus películas a modo de homenaje. Por cierto, a estas horas IMDB, la ‘larousse’ del cine, todavía no ha actualizado su muerte, aunque tiene varios artículos sobre su suicidio.

What youre saying is completely true. I know that everybody must say the same thing, but I just think that you put it in a way that everyone can understand. I also love the images you put in here.
