Hoy hace 50 años que ‘Viridiana‘ ganó la Palma de Oro del Festival de Cannes. Ha sido la única película española que ha logrado la máxima distinción de ese festival, aunque curiosamente poco después de ganar el premio, perdiera su nacionalidad.
El régimen de Franco no le perdon que hubiera burlado la censura y que hubiera ‘ridiculizado’ los valores del catolicismo, como muy sibilinamente les hizo notar desde El Vaticano L´Obsservatore Romano. Total porque se insinuaba una relación a tres bandas, se recreaba con borrachos y mendigos La Última Cena de Leonardo Da Vinci y se dejaba en evidencia muchas supuestas actuaciones caritativas…
Su éxito no hizo más que abofetear a quienes la criticaban (incluidos algunos exiliados que le echaban en cara a Buñuel haber colaborado con el régimen), por lo que la reacción fue fulminante: se prohibió en España, el Director General de Cinematografía, que ufano había recogido el premio en nombre de Buñuel, fue destituido fulminantemente y las productoras Uninci y Films 59 se disolvieron. Solo la intervención del productor Gustavo Alastriste (que había financiado la película con la única condición de que se contratara a su mujer, Silvia Pinal) salvó a Viridiana de la quema y posibilitó su distribución ‘bajo bandera’ mexicana.
Tuvieron que pasar 16 años para que Viridiana pudiera estrenarse en las salas españolas. Lo hizo el 1 de abril de 1977, el mismo día que se legalizó el Partido Comunista de España.
Hasta 1983 no se le reconoció la nacionalidad española, y ahora, ya veis, todavía seguimos presumiendo de ella y subrayando que es la única película española que tiene la Palma de Oro… por el momento.

Es de las mejores del gran BUÑUELTiene escenas y secuencias de gran cine.

Ja, ja, ja, que genial Buñuel y que actual. Todavía seguimos con el vaticano a vueltas. Es triste, para cortarse las venas, pero por lo menos nos quedan Buñuel, Berlanga, Azcona, Almodovar…, y bueno, una carcajada hace las veces de cortarse las venas.
