Entrevista a Manuel Trujillo. Psiquiatra. 60 años. Nacido en Zaragoza y criado en Sevilla. Profesor de la Universidad de Nueva York y jefe de la unidad de siquiatría del Hospital Bellvue. Preside la Sociedad Americana de Psiquiatría Hispana. Coordinó estudios sobre trastornos mentales tras los atentados del 11-M.
La depresión es «la primera causa mundial de incapacidad».
La depresión está relacionada con la «complejidad progresiva de la vida en la sociedad moderna».
«Vivimos en la sociedad de la abundancia. Todos queremos ser altos, guapos, felices y contentos. Todos queremos ser el número uno«.
«Seis de cada siete de mis pacientes dicen lo mismo: ‘Quiero que me quieran«.
«Las culturas urbanas son individualistas, competitivas, insolidarias. No hay intercambio de afecto ni proyectos comunes«.
Hace dos décadas la familia nos arropaba, ahora «estamos solos». Antes abundaban las depresiones endógenas, causadas por trastornos biológicos, ahora son más frecuentes las depresiones reactivas a la situación exterior.
Sobre la forma cambiante de la expresión del dolor: «la forma del dolor está mediatizada por la cultura». Hay menos tolerancia que en el pasado. Aguantamos menos.
¿Un consejo? «Conózcase a sí mismo y entréguese a una causa superior».

¿Un consejo? «Conózcase a sí mismo y entréguese a una causa superior».Hala!!! como me ha gustado esa frase… sí me ha definido… me reconozco pija que aspiro a ser mejor( menos pija)… porque lo contrario sería muy feo( una no pija que aspira a serlo)… eso debe ser esa mezcla de niña bien y niña rebelde. O de niña buena y mala, aunque no se donde va la bondad o la maldad… creo que están mezcladas en la mezcla.Una bruja dijo de mí que era muy rebelde, que iba a tener problemas por eso… cuando yo era super buena aún:-Hala!! pero si yo no soy nada rebelde.Luego sí( en realidad ya lo era pero sin despertar)… pero también me dijo que no pasaría nada porque como era muy inteligente lo resolvería sola( jejej, es que esa parte es la única que me gustó)
