Hubo un momento en que la banda que hoy nos ocupa, los estadounidenses Tapes n’ Tapes, parecían ser la gran promesa del indie rock norteamericano. Su debut, The Loon (2005), aunaba lo mejor del sonido de bandas como Pixies o Pavement para, en poco más de media hora, condensar una colección de canciones adictivas, quizá no especialmente trascendentes, pero indudablemente frescas y disfrutables. Aquel disco fue una de mis bandas sonoras de ese verano.

Seis años y dos discos después, la banda de Minnesota se ha quedado en un lugar intermedio entre lo que algunos esperaban de ellos y el batacazo que no pocos se pegan cuando las expectativas tras un buen primer disco se vuelven en tu contra. Tras el irregular Walk it Off (2008), recibido con dureza por la crítica, volvieron a principios de este 2011 con Outside, un tercer disco más sólido en el que, por momentos, vuelven a dar en el clavo. Freak out, su primer single, nos sirve para estrenar esta calurosa semana. Que os sea leve.
