Hace tiempo que Jimmy Barnatán, al que los menos melómanos conocerán únicamente por sus faceta interepretativa en series, teatro y películas de toda condición, viene dando muestras de un desbordante talento musical. Lo demostró en un primer disco sorprendente, Black note (2010), lo ha venido corroborando con multitud de actuaciones en directo y ahora lo refrenda con After the blue times, su flamante nuevo álbum.

Jimmy es un enamorado de los sonidos más añejos del soul y el rythm and blues. Y como tal, domina con sorprendente facilidad registros vocales más propios de un negro de Alabama que de un joven madrileño. Y es que es muy posible que los que aún no hayan oído cantar al pequeño Jimmy se lleven las manos a la cabeza de puro pasmo.

Su nuevo disco es un viaje a las raíces de la música negra que gustará a los no iniciados y, al mismo tiempo, encandilará a los amantes del género, que encontrarán en sus canciones todos los ingredientes y clichés de un estilo cuyas líneas maestras no están precisamente al alcance de cualquiera. Mañana lo presenta en Madrid en un concierto exclusivo que, a su vez, servirá de pistoletazo de salida para una gira que le llevará por toda España.

En She loves the jazz, el primer single del disco, Barnatán se hace acompañar de la actriz Lola Dorado, cuya voz no tiene nada que envidiar a la del propio Barnatán. Un dúo de espíritu rockabill y sabor a destartalado motel de carretera, botella de burbon y kilométricas carreteras por la América profunda. Se me ocurren pocas maneras mejores de empezar bien la semana.
