les del disco se tambalean. Citigroup, el mayor conglomerado financiero del planeta y propietario de Visa, se ha hecho con el 100% de la EMI, hogar de bandas como The Beatles, Depeche Mode o Coldplay y que hasta ahora pertenecía a Terra Firma, la empresa de Guy Hands (en la foto). Una operación que tiene como objetivo amortizar la deuda del grupo y que podría desembocar en una nueva venta. Y es que Citigroup quiere desprenderse de la patata caliente cuanto antes, por lo que diversas fuentes apuntan que otra de las cuatro grandes multinacionales, Warner, ya negocia con los dueños de Visa la compra de lo que quede de la maltrecha EMI.
La operación -«un paso extremadamente positivo para la empresa» según el consejero delegado de la discográfica Roger Faxon-, posibilitará que los empleados de EMI cobren sus nóminas, algo que, en la situación anterior, solo estaba garantizado hasta marzo. Por el momento, Citigroup se ha comprometido a garantizar los puestos de trabajo de los empleados de la disquera.
El paso de Guy Hands por EMI es uno de los más catastróficos ejemplos de gestión que se recuerdan. Hace sólo tres años adquiría la compañía apoyándose precisamente en Citigroup para poner el dinero sobre la mesa. Pese a la crisis, EMI había capeado el temporal razonablemente bien. Pero las cosas no tardaron en torcerse, y los intereses comenzaron a acumularse hasta llegar a lo insostenible. Citigroup pasó de entusiasta accionista a principal acreedor.
Los grandes éxitosde Hands hablan por sí solos: en 2007, al poco de llegar, Radiohead abandonaron el barco. Ese mismo año, Paul McCartney publicó su disco con Starbucks, rompiendo una de las más longevas relaciones de la historia de la música. En 2008, Queen hicieron lo propio. Para entonces, la firma ya había entrado en zona roja, y se vio obligada a emprender una campaña de despidos masivos de la que en su día se habló este mismo blog.
Algunos dirán que sólo es cuestión de tiempo que el anquilosado modelo de negocio que representan empresas como EMI se desmorone. Que este es sólo uno más de los síntomas de su enfermedad terminal. Es posible que así sea. Y pese a la colección de trapos sucios que atesora toda multinacional y lo podrido de su manera de enfocar la venta de discos, uno no sabe si esto son buenas noticias. Al fin y al cabo, EMI siempre fue la más digna de las cuatro majors y pareció destilar, por lo general, un mayor respeto a la música que sus competidores directos. Tampoco es que el listón estuviera demasiado alto.

Y claro que se compran discos y se compran menos por «culpa» de Internet y de poder comparar la «musica» que nos venden las discograficas «apoyando» a las cadenas musicales y televisiones con otra música y pensar que el refrito de los 40 lo vamos a pagar igual que la musica buena, para eso estan los politonos!!

Cuando veo un disco caro digo, jo si estuviera mas barato … y cuando ese cd lo veo a tres euros digo, para que lo voy a comprar si ya lo tengo de emule, asi que estas fortunas estos accionistas de discograficas hara como diez años que invierten su dinero en otra cosa y lo sacaron de las discograficas, Verbatim, empresas de cable internet y mil cosas que si dan dinero

No se vende un disco porque los soportes tal y como se conocen se ha muerto ya, el negocio es vender CANCIONES -y no albums- por Internet, sin discográficas de por medio que se lleven el 90% de la comisión, y aprecios asequibles (1€ por canción o MENOS, ejemplo: los politonos se venden cocmo churros y la gente paga porque son baratos.
Hasta que cambien el modelo de negocio asistiremos a la muerte de todas las discográfica, a la lucha de los «artistas» empujados por las discográficas contra todo Internet PARA NADA.
Esto es una revolución y tienen que adaptarse SI o SI.

Guy hands se creyó muy listo, pero más listo fue quien se la vendió. Lo mejor que le puede pasar es que la compre Warner ( que está detrás del tema hace tiempo…tienes relaciones con Citygroup). La música debe estar manos de músicos o amantes de la música y el rock. No de jilipollas que tanto venden lavadoras, gasolineras o música. Hands, eso te pasa por menospreciar al colectivo. Sabéis que es lo primero que hizo este Mr. Lord cuando llegó a la compañía. UN TEST DE DROGADICCION a todos los empleados.
