Mis defensas, un poco mermadas por la mala alimentación, el cansancio y el estrés, luchan contra lo que supongo que debe ser alguna bacteria que se metió en mi interior a través del agua o la comida. Ahora es mi cuerpo el campo de batalla.
Me paso todo el día con vómitos y fiebre en la cama, tiritando, rogando que no sea malaria. Para peor, es la jornada más calurosa desde que he llegado, por lo que la tienda es una suerte de horno, de infierno entre tres mugrientas lonas.
Esta mañana ya me he levantado mejor. De algún modo es lógico, ante un ambiente tan distinto, tu cuerpo se rebela, intenta rechazar los microorganismos que en él pululan. Sólo espero que tras la batalla de ayer hayan firmado un armisticio y que me dejen hacer mi trabajo en paz.
Tengo una serie de historias muy interesantes para el blog. Estuve hablando con empleados de las empresas privadas estadounidenses y australianas que gestionan la reconstrucción tras la guerra. Un negocio muy suculento. También conocí a un par de personajes sumamente peculiares, pastores evangelistas, iluminados, que vienen aquí con ideas delirantes. Los «freaks» que atrae la guerra. Y, finalmente, lo que más me interesa, describir el lugar en el que me encuentro, reconstruirlo en el blog, explicar las causas de la guerra y sus consecuencias aquí, en el sur de Sudán.
Espero esta tarde poder empezar a trabajar nuevamente. Por la noche me espera el Mundial. Como aquí no hay electricidad ni televisión ni nada, iré a un cuartel militar a verlo en una pantalla gigante. Se espera que buena parte de las 200 mil personas que viven en Juba vayan a verlo también. Que gane el mejor.
Entiendo tu comentario «lectora decepcionada». Y lo pensé antes de escribir esa entrada. Mi intención, ante todo, era disculparme por no poder seguir haciendo mi trabajo ese día y los siguientes. Realmente estaba mal. Pero creo que en el tono se nota que no me erigí como epicentro del sufrimiento en Sudán. Al contrario, lo escribí con bastante ironía.Cualquier sufrimiento que yo pueda tener aquí será insignificante en comparación al de esta gente. O el sufrimiento que haya podido tener en Calcuta o en Camboya, o en todos los lugares donde he vivido y trabajado. Y eso es algo que tengo bien en claro, y que creo que es una línea que nunca he quebrantado a lo largo de estos trece años de labor en países pobres. En ninguno de mis libros o artículos me vas a ver más que como un mero narrador, un amplificador de ciertas voces y situaciones sumamente injustas.Un saludo y espero que tu decepción pase pronto.
